Join London Honey Company founder and head beekeeper Steve Benbow in East Sussex at Sarah Raven's Farm, Perch Hill, for an introduction to beekeeping.

Sarah RavenSarah Raven is passionate about sharing her knowledge and love of gardening and cooking. Raven's publications include The Cutting Garden , Vita Sackville - West's Sissinghurst - The Creation of a Garden and Sarah Raven's Garden Cookbook. Sarah has presented on BBC Gardeners' World amongst other TVs. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Course

The day will start with a honey tasting, 8 to 12 honeys from around the UK and beyond to whet everyone's appetite, followed by a brief introduction to how Steve started beekeeping and the London Honey Company.

He'll cover the importance of bees, the structure of the honeybee colony and hive, colony reproduction and swarming, sourcing your bee stock, beekeeping equipment and preparing your first hive, including siting your beehive, honey harvesting, your bees' first winter, and next steps into your new beekeeping hobby.

The day lasts from 10.30am till 3.30pm including tea/coffee on arrival, morning tea/coffee break with home-made biscuits and a delicious 2 course lunch using fresh produce from the garden at Perch Hill.

At the end of the day Sarah will take you round her beautiful garden if you fancy it.
